East Sussex Community Voice takes part in Dementia Awareness Training
Earlier this month the ESCV team took part in a Dementia Awareness Training session run by DISC Dementia Support.
The professional session was designed to help us better understand dementia and how to support those affected by it.
The training covered important topics like; what dementia is and how it affects the brain, common myths and facts about dementia, the different types of dementia, and much more.
DISC Dementia Support is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to supporting the unpaid carers of people living with Dementia in East Sussex. Their goal is to ensure that everyone has the access to the information and support they need to live well with Dementia and, to live well in their caring role.
The provide a number of services including free groups and events across East Sussex, including:
- Monthly Carer Support Groups: in St Leonards, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Langney, Seaford, Uckfield, Crowborough, Robertsbridge, and Rye. Each session includes a warm drink and biscuits, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment.
- Carer Craft Club: A relaxing monthly session in St Leonards for carers to enjoy hobbies and unwind.
- Singing Down Memory Lane: Held twice a month in Bexhill, this group is for people with dementia and their carers to sing, dance, and socialise.
