International Youth Day 2024
Today (12th August) is International Youth Day, which brings youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrates the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.
ESCV plan, deliver and manage youth participation projects and young volunteering programmes across East Sussex, and work across a variety of children and young people’s issues and topics:
Working in partnership with NHS Sussex
ESCV are supporting NHS Sussex to make sure young people can shape the health services they receive.
Earlier this year NHS Sussex welcomed 15 Youth Consultants whose energy and passion is already making a difference.
Youth Consultants are young people aged 16-24 years who are helping to shape future NHS health and social care services in Sussex. Within their role they:
- Meet with healthcare professionals about plans for service, sharing young person’s perspectives.
- Help involve children and other young people by designing surveys, planning and hosting workshops or events.
- Design or review communication materials for children and young people services
- Research services and review documents and reports.
- Share ideas and help others think differently!

Young Healthwatch East Sussex
Young Healthwatch is part of Healthwatch East Sussex, an organisation which listens to the public and feeds information back to decision makers to help make services better for people.
Young Healthwatch explores healthcare issues that affect young people. They ensure that young people’s thoughts, ideas and experiences are listened to and acted upon by decision makers.
Most recently Young Healthwatch have been involved in co-designing a children and young people friendly accreditation for GP practices. The accreditation is based on the experiences of young people and what they would like to see improved. The accreditation has recently been launched in Hasting and St Leonard’s, with plans to extend to other to areas of East Sussex.

Youth Social Action Fund Project
ESCV were funded by BBC Children in Need to deliver The Youth Social Action project, with young people under 18 in East Sussex. The project used creative and unique methods to engage young people to explore issues that we important to them and their communities.
The project was led by a Youth Advisory Board, a group of young people working together to oversee the project activities, inspiring and supporting young people to get involved.
We worked with a group of young travellers from Maresfield to create a sculpture to raise awareness of their culture and community, and with 208 pupils from a high school in Bexhill to help them explore what social action means to them and how they can make a difference in their communities.
The project came to an end earlier this year and we are now in the process of writing up our findings which we will share over on our website, so what this space: https://www.escv.org.uk/work/youth-social-action-project
