We are seeking to appoint new Trustees to join our Board.
Are you passionate about communities?
Can you help local people have a greater say in services?

As NHS, local authority and voluntary services face a period of change, it’s crucial local people remain at the heart of decision-making. East Sussex Community Voice exists to empower people to have their voices heard and we are seeking new Non-Executive Directors to help guide our work.
Now is a great time to contribute your skills, knowledge and experience to our small, dynamic and well-led Community Interest Company to help us evolve and grow. We offer a welcoming environment, opportunities for training and personal development, and the chance to help us make a real difference to people’s lives.
We are seeking committed and forward-thinking individuals to help enable more people in East Sussex to have their say on the design and delivery of local services. We hold a range of contracts including Healthwatch East Sussex, currently host the East Sussex VCSE Alliance, and have ambitious plans to grow. Our office is based in Eastbourne, but we work across East Sussex. We have a Board of 5 Non-Executive Directors, 11 staff members and 29 volunteers.
We welcome applicants with a diverse range of perspectives and experience, including people seeking their first Non-Executive Director role. We actively encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and those with lived experience of social or health inequalities. If you are passionate about our mission but unsure whether this role is for you, we would love to hear from you.
In particular (but not exclusively), we welcome applicants with experience of one or more of the following:
- growing a business
- oversight of finances and/or organisational governance
- ensuring the wellbeing of staff and volunteers
- development and delivery of public or voluntary services
What’s involved
A willingness to learn about our organisation, the responsibilities of our Non-Executive Directors, and an ability to commit to the time involved, are essential.
We anticipate a typical ‘ask’ of approximately one day per month on Board matters which may include:
- Representing us and forging relationships with local partners and services
- Overseeing our strategies, policies, and procedures
- Supporting the evolution of business and its funding streams
- Contributing pro-actively to our quarterly Board meetings
- Engaging with staff and volunteers on projects
Board Members receive an allowance of £1,200 per annum and reasonable out of pocket expenses. Terms of office for Non-Executive Directors are three years.
How to apply:
If you wish to apply for the role, please submit the following:
- a personal statement on two pages of A4 detailing how you meet the Person Specification and criteria outlined in this document.
- a copy of your CV on no more than four sides of A4
