East Sussex Community Voice (ESCV) is an independent Community Interest Company which delivers the Healthwatch contract in East Sussex and commissions the Independent Health Complaints Advocacy Service in East Sussex (IHCAS). It is independent therefore does not take a view from statutory organisations, commissioners, health services. Additionally, resulting from its excellent partnership relationships has commissioned through a diligent process the Advocacy services from a partner company seAp with expertise in that field, thereby providing a mix of independence and expertise to deliver two quality services for the people of East Sussex.
The organisation is public facing, easy to access, professional in everything it does, and has developed a range of expertise in monitoring, marketing and community liaison and volunteer support to meet the brief of the government legislation contained within the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
Additionally, the organisation is led by a committed Board of non-executive Directors and an Executive Director with the knowledge and insight evidenced over the last 3 years to develop all the functions that will be required for the next 5 years. Additionally, we have been commissioned to provide supporting projects e.g. MacMillan project, Patient Participation Group (PPG) project, Patient Reference Forum (PRF), ESBT and the Probation service. All these projects interact and support further the Healthwatch function.
The delivery of both Healthwatch and IHCAS are managed by a small and dedicated team within ESCV. The key to the success and quality of this work to date has been strong leadership, knowledge of legislation, clear understanding of the HW functions and appropriate application of work streams that emerge locally but also that follow national agendas, e.g. Care Act 2014, CQC outcomes, Health and Social Care integration. This legislation requires putting people at the heart of everything we do and makes the strong link to the design of local services but also ensures that people have the opportunity to obtain support to have their voice heard. Crucial to this work are the Evidence and Insight function, the Volunteer and Community Liaison lead, the Marketing function and for the future we intend to strengthen the Operations lead so that all the specific functions may grow and invest further in their respective expertise whilst the operations will seek business opportunities for the future and provide objectives within a clear Business plan ensuring quality of delivery and clear business processes that will sustain growth and with service user feedback as a basic concept.
